In a Roundabout Way

Most of my family emigrated to Europe. If you are familiar with Caribbean folks moving to places like the United Kingdom (UK) and the United States of America (USA) you know that they speak with a twang. Not quite Caribbean and not quite that of the country they have emigrated to. It is a mix between countries. I love to hear it.

My cousin Debz from the UK introduced me to the Graham Norton Show. It is a British comedy chat show. I am hooked. not only because of the accents but just the personality and jovial way of the host Graham Norton. I love how the show is structured and how he interacts with the 'stars' as though they were his neighbour. They actually have some funny stories as well. It is quite fascinating.

On the show there is this segment where Graham (apparently we are on a first name basis now, don't judge) introduces new talent or new released music of old talent. In one of these episodes he introduced me to Laura Mvula. Thank you so much for the introduction Graham. When i tell you that i fell in love. I fell in love. I fell in love with her voice, her style, just her. (nope I'm quite heterosexual) I don't know her but the story she tells with her voice i feel as though she is an ancestor speaking to my soul.

Laura and I have gotten to know one another really well through her hits like Overcome, She, Green Garden, Phenomenal Woman, Can't Live With the World and between these two I cant seem to figure out which one is my favourite, so lets say they are both my favourite, and they are, Sing to the Moon and Show me Love. These conversations are just our initial meeting but I believe as experiences grow we will have more conversations.

Oh she inspires me, lifts me up, heals me, puts me in the mood to love, lightens my heavy burdens, makes me happy and drives me to contemplate certain aspects of life. Love, happiness, sometimes sadness and hate are the things music makes you feel. The spectrum of emotions is vast. Music is powerful.

'One good thing about music....when it hits, you feel no pain'. (Bob Marley) Wisdom from Uncle Bob.

There is so much i can share on this topic and i will. Feel free to share your favourite artists and songs and how they made you feel.

With Love.
